Turn Landscape Photos into Brick Dioramas

A landscape is not a single object. The useful translation is often a compact diorama: foreground, middle ground and background arranged on a buildable base. Image2LEGO can propose geometry, but the distance and hidden terrain in one photo remain uncertain.

Design proposal, not a build guarantee

Image2LEGO turns a reference image into an editable 3D brick proposal. One photo leaves hidden surfaces uncertain. Manually inspect connections, stability, parts and build order before buying physical bricks.

01 / REFERENCE PHOTO

Choose a photo that explains the subject

Choose a clear focal point

A mountain ridge, coast, tree or house gives the model a recognizable anchor. An evenly detailed panorama is harder to simplify.

Preserve the horizon

Keep enough sky and ground in the crop to show relative height and scene depth.

Use additional angles thoughtfully

If you have them, add side views of the focal object. A second angle can clarify shape, but it does not automatically reconstruct the entire landscape.

02 / SUBJECT-SPECIFIC DESIGN

Translate the subject into brick decisions

Build in depth layers

Translate near, middle and far elements into stepped plate levels. Large color masses usually matter more than every leaf or rock.

Control the palette

Limit similar greens and browns so terrain forms remain readable at small scale. Transparent pieces can suggest water, but they need a stable base.

Choose a base first

Define the footprint and support columns before adding trees, cliffs or waterfalls that extend beyond it.

03 / COPYABLE STARTING POINT

This is a starting instruction, not a promise that every requested feature will appear. Upload your own reference, select “Start a new build”, and revise the proposal after inspecting it.

SUBJECT PROMPT
Turn this landscape photo into an editable brick diorama. Keep the main horizon, the largest terrain shapes and one clear focal element. Separate foreground, middle ground and background with stepped plate layers. Simplify foliage and water into recognizable color blocks. Flag hidden terrain as an inferred design choice and require a manual stability review.
04 / BEFORE ORDERING PARTS

Manual Buildability Checklist

A model that looks convincing on screen has not automatically passed a physical assembly test. Review the exported LDraw file and parts list in a compatible editor before purchase.

1. Check

Check whether the base supports slopes and tall trees.

2. Check

Inspect hidden backs of cliffs and terrain layers.

3. Check

Verify transparent or specialty colors before ordering.

4. Check

Confirm the scene can be assembled from the base upward.

05 / PRACTICAL QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a single photo create accurate topography?

Not reliably. Image depth is ambiguous without additional views or measurements, so treat terrain depth as an artistic interpretation.

Is a mosaic the same as a 3D diorama?

No. A mosaic primarily reproduces color in a flat grid; a diorama adds depth, elevation and structural support.
